Heat Cycling
I have a new set of Yokohama A032's and was wondering how I should heat cycle them?
I usually have two sets of tires (one new and one used) so I run the new ones for a few laps on Firday and then let them sit while I run the rest of the weekend on the used set then change back to the new ones for the Sunday race. My problem is I don't have any used tires which means I will run with the new set all weekend. What do you guy think of the heat cycling the tire rack offers? Is it a true heat cycle? I was also thinking of throwing the tires on my street car for a day...would that work? Any bit of thoughts and/or comments is appreciated. |

Anthony,
Just put them on and run them. Not that much of a difference. They may not last as long, but yet again they may. You will probablly not notice the difference. YOu going to Buttonwillow?

Of course I'll be at Buttonwillow. I am gonna do the rest of the season since both my cars are done.
That's what I was wondering. If I don't heat cycle them, how much less with they last? Will they wearound Saturday afternoon rather than Sunday morning? I doubt is a big difference. What do you C Production guys do on the 911's? |

I don't know if it would apply to higher speed road racing, but I've had good luck with a set of tires used for autocross that I "heat cycled" by driving on them on the highway. It seemed like they stayed soft longer than other's tires that get autocrossed only with no "gentle" use.

Anthony,
I do not even bother getting them heat cycled from Tire Rack any more. I never noticed a difference and you often wonder if they even do it. Just put the heat cycled stamp on it and send them off. If there is a test day on the Friday before. I will just go do one session in the car, bring them up to temp and park it and put it on Jack stands. And If I cant do that, I just run them hard from the get go. NO big deal. Like I said, not much of a difference. Good luck budy

I've heat cycled tires on the highway. It's very hard to get them up to temp that way, short of being seriously reckless. Lower pressure to about 10 psi then drive about 90.
