Porsche Crest Porsche 911 Mechanic in Michigan

I live in Michigan, west of Detroit and north of Ann Arbor. I have been doing the maintenance on my car up til this point, but I think I may want a repair done by a mechanic. Is there anyone out there that knows of a good mechanic (outside of a dealership) that they would recommend for my car?

Thanks!

There is supposed to be a good guy in Brighton, but everytime I read about him, I get his name and not the shops name.

Please PM me if someome post his shops name- I will look in my notes.

Pehaps you can do a search on "Brighton" in this forum.

I had bad luck with Eurotech in Ann Arbor, but that just might be me. I have considered P.A.T. in Ann Arbor, heard good and bad about them as well.

I used to live in A2 between 1989 and 1996 and owned a specialized rust proof shop (basically used a clean, synthetic penetrating oil that displaced moisture - no longer affiliated, but I think you can still get it, called Corrosion Free, at the oil change shop at the corner of State & Ellsworth) and dealt with Tim Pott at Eurotech quite a bit, both professionally and personally with my then Porsche -a 1987 944S.

Tim knows his stuff - gave me the most detailed and complete pre purchase inspection I have ever seen - after I had bought the car! Since the car was far from Tim, somebody else did the PPI and said it was perfect! Tim said it was a good car, but pointed out a number of small issues that really showed they went through the car carefully. Tim also did an honest job on my 944S when the chain tensioner failed and destroyed my cams (but it did not jump timing - thank God!).

I don't think there is anybody in the area that knows more or that I trust. He may present you with a list of work a mile long, but consult the board, prioritize the work, figure out what you can do yourself and go from there.

There are a lot of good shops in A2 for Saabs, M/B & Volvo, but Eurotech is the only place I would take a Porsche.

His card has yellow and orange stripes on it, someone just gave me the card a few weeks ago. Supposed to be a younger guy that really knows his stuff.

Check out Munk's in Waterford. SEMPCA is affiliated with them. Heard good things. Sounds like you need a new clutch or at least an adjustment. What about doing yourself? This board has been tons of help for me. I am sure we could walk you through it.

I have no direct experience, but the P.O. of my 911 used them extensively since 1981!

I use Euro Autowerks in Belding (north of Grand Rapids). It isn't real close to you, but I have had nothing but good experiences with Tim. He has a SWB that he races. He has given me some quick help and tips for DYI work over the phone, too.
Go was bought out and is now East Imports. I am not sure how good they are. For me, when I took my '82 SC to them when they were still Go, they weren't bad, just nothing worth driving anywhere for.
