New fuel pump, although I haven't measured the volume. One thing I noticed when I took the top off of the carbs when they were still on the engine, the back(towards the back of the car) fuel bowl in each carb had very little fuel in them, not even enought to raise the float. Is this normal?

If you have that little fuel in the bowls, you are too low. You indicated that you have ordered the little tool to help set the floats. I have a feeling you will find your problem here. I hope you ordered the little set of shims to adjust the float level -- I think PMO includes them with the tool.

Once, you set the floats, go back through and recheck the carbs. One of the first steps in setting the carbs is setting the floats, so until these are right you will have problems with the balance and tuning.

One other point-- this is 73.5 T motor so this was a CIS engine? If so, please check the timing again. The timing is set on my 1977 CIS motor with webers with the vacuum hose connected (sounded really weird to me too, but that's what it said on the top of the fan shroud, so I did it). The vacuum canister actually retards the timing a bit so if you are setting the timing with the hose off, the timing may be too retarded. I set mine at Z1 with the vacuum connected and the car runs fine with no detonation. You might give this a try.
