I Bought a 5000-pound S!

Unfortunately, not an early 911S with the optional lead body panels, but a Cayenne S. Yeah, that's right, me - early 911 fanatic and Peppervagen critic - now owns a water-cooled Porsche SUV! So flame away, I'm used to it - one of my R-Gruppe brothers happened to call minutes after I closed the deal and gave me grief already ........ I think he mumbled something about blackballing me as he hung up ..........

The only question now is what the bumper sticker will read:

"My Other Car is a REAL Porsche"

"Real Porsches are Air-Cooled"

or ??????

Good for you. I'm usually anti-SUV, but if you're going to buy one, you might as well buy the best one out there

Congratulations and have fun.

I think the R-guppe police will have to confinscate your targa...[bullhorn] ...please drop the keys and walk away.[\bullhorn]

seriously if you're going to buy a SUV it might as well be one with the same badge on what you're towing as on what's towing it.

Cool how does it drive? How does it compare to other SUVs? I just bought a 2002 Tahoe and I cant believe the performance (relative) to my 3/4 ton PU. Its amazing what they have figured out on 6000lb vehicles.

I think as long as you did not trade the early car you are OK :-))

You really did it so you can drop the motor into a 911 and really frustrate the anti-V8-in-a-911 crowd didn't you?

Yeah, I was thinking of dropping the 340HP V8 into the Gray Wolf, but I'm still trying to figure out where the sparkplugs are - all you see is a big piece of plastic when you pop the hood ......

I'm picking the vehicle up Fri or Sat. But I've driven them and they really are unbelieveable. It is very easy to go fast. The first one I drove was with a salesman. We're driving along the expressway and the speed-alarm goes off. I thought it must have been set at 55 and he says 'no, it's set at 90!' Oops.

Somehow I don't envision many Cayenne owners changing their own plugs. They might as well have welded the hood shut.

Curt -
Congrats! I'm a fan of the Cayenne, and will probably own one at some point. Enjoy it and keep us posted on idiosyncracies (speed alarm? how about a stall warning?) and if you still love it in 6 months.
Best,
JP

"Somehow I don't envision many Cayenne owners changing their own plugs. They might as well have welded the hood shut."

It was funny, the salesman said, "I'd show ya the engine, but there's nothing to see but a big plastic cover ....." At least he was honest.

Don't worry, you'll have an honest opinion of this thing from me. My goal is to bury it up to the axles in a swamp at duck camp in about 5 weeks ....... I'll post photos.

Curt, Curt, Curt, I am SO disappointed with you. I may never mooch a ride with you again...an SUV???....man, I am SO disappointed.

And as for Noah's suggestion about lightening - hell no, you've got to find places to add half a ton of lead to qualify for the tax credit!
