Determining clutch health...here are my symptoms.

I do not know how long clutch has been in the car.

It slips off the line with any sort of drop from any revs. There is absolutely no way to get off-the-line wheelspin in my car. Clutch just slips. I am very careful with it. I have never abused it in the 2.5 yrs I have had it. No performance degradation in that time period.

I have no problems once it's engaged. Never slips in any of the gears at any speed.

It starts to engage very low in the pedal stroke. Engages about 1-2" from the floor.

I have heard clutch cables can drag and produce a slow take up and engagement. I have a new cable on the way.

Can I expect the clutch cable to help the slip/ performance during engagement or just the feel of the engagement?

That could be a simptom of your problem. Or it could be a weak PP. You don't say what year car you have.

When my 78SC clutch started slipping, all I had to do was to loosen the clutch cable tension. There's a good technical article here on Pelican Parts. What year is your 911?

Factory 911 clutches are weaklings. Flame away. I've had two completely different factory clutch setups in my car. Different flywheels, PP, disk, cable, etc. Off the line, the tires don't smoke but the clutch disk will!

JW's clutch test sounds like the best. Cruising up a hill in fifth gear at freeway speeds, tap the clutch pedal while keeping your foot on the gas. Watch the tach. Engine speed will rise, and then quickly fall. If it falls slowly, your disk is worn.
