Carrera Brakes on a '67S... How?

Hello All,

How do people upgrade from SC brakes to Carrera items? Do they just get Carrera calipers and rotors and it's done or are the hubs and bearings and even spindle different? Need struts needed?

That said, can the Carrera system be bolted on a '67S? What's involved? Is there cutting involved or all is a bolt on? Someone please help me with this. My '67S' brake system is failing (I have to pump it up all the time) and I intend to convert to a dual circuit master and while I'm at it, I might as well go Carrera...

Thanks. And sorry for rushing everyone but brakes are important!

Sprint.

I will first assume that the caliper bolt spacing is 3.5” and that you have the Koni struts.

The calipers will bolt directly to the strut. You will also need the thicker Carrera rotors and thinner Carrera pads. Remove the hubs, remove the 5 bolts that hold the original rotors to the hub, and replace with the new rotors. While the hub is off - clean and repack the wheel bearing with fresh grease. Then – the hard metal brake line will need to be replaced as the Carrera calipers have the brake line hole in a different place. Just measure how long the new line will need to be – take your old solid line to the auto parts store and make sure you get a new line with the correct thread/fitting. Replace, being careful to bend the new solid brake line so it not near anything it could rub on. Flush system with new brake fluid and bleed.

The orginal master cylinder works very well with this system and replacing with the Carrera MC requires considerable modification to the sheet metal.

Caliper spacing on '67S struts is 3", not 3.5", so Carrera brakes are not a bolt on to existing stock struts. The best solution is to bolt an entire front end of a Carrera onto the early SWB cars if this upgrade is desired, including crossmember, struts, tie rods, steering rack, brakes, spindles, A-arms, etc. The entire assembly can be had from junkyards (oops, they're "recyclers" now, eh?) for $600-1000.

Hehe... Do I just fit on the struts or the crossmember is necessary as well? The tie-rods and rack is the same, right?

I'd prefer not to fit the cross-member as mine is a SWB car and I want the front to be as heavy as possible!!!

Is it a bolt-on affair? Anyone got personal experience?

Thanks!
