Hazard flasher semi-works...

Puzzling. The hazard-flasher button to the left of the steering column functions just fine: press it so it pops a half-inch out and all four hazard flashers flash. But the internal light in the pushbutton does _not_ work, and the pair of indicator lights in the speedometer do _not_ flash in time with the external flashers. Yet they work just fine with the directionals, obviously one at a time. Nothing wrong with the internal bulb, in fact the entire hazard switch is brand-new. (I replaced it not because I needed to cure the nonworking bulb but because the old switch would occasionally interfere with the directionals; it had to be cycled before the directionals would work again. I assumed that replacing it would coincidentally fix the inop light and speedo indicators, which is not the case.)

Anybody have any idea what the problem could be, since it's obviously external to the switch itself?

Stephan

It could be the flasher relay. I had some strange issues with my indicators and flashing speed and replacing the relay with a Hella (original) one cured my issues. I tried one that matched at a local parts store and it only increased my problems!

but because the old switch would occasionally interfere with the directionals; it had to be cycled before the directionals would work again.

This sounds like a sticking flasher relay, so your problem may lie deeper...

replacing the turn signal/hazard relay cured a bunch of ills with the hazard switch, turn signals, and high beams. there's too much routed through there! it's 35.00 from our host.
