OK to install new pads at the track?
 

My buddy just bought a set of Hawk track pads for me (As a car dealer he gets a big discount) and I will meet him at Nelson Ledges this weekend to participate in a DE. Any problem with just bedding them in on the road a couple hours before I get on the track? Or should I drive with them for a couple hundred miles (Which could take me a couple months)first.

Just bed them in for a few miles. You'll be good to go.

Follow Hawk's bed in procedures if at all possible.

Check out my post about Hawk pads (Blue) about two weeks ago. Swapped in the Hawks for a two day DE, bedded them properly, they worked great but the pads did a royal score job on my relatively new rotors. These pads are essentially metal lathes. When the time came to return back to my street pads, the resulting street brake performance was less than optimum. YMMV.

Hawk's are very aggressive and they should bed into your rotors about 2 seconds into your first stop:). They do work well....but....the dust they make forms a hard aggregate on any metal surface, especially when combined with water and heat. The weather looks good for the weekend, so that may not be an issue. I've used them before and they do stop well, but are excessively hard on rotors.

FWIW, I have made it through 2 DEs with the street Hawk pads and am very happy with the grip. Disc wear is not evident on the rear, the fronts a little bit of scoring but that may be the calipers or the driver :)

BTW, Michael, I installed the 993 brake cooling ducts and will let you know how they work. I wouldn't expect any problems w/o them either as the temps are going to be in the low 70s.
