Had my SSI's installed today
Well after months of gathering data from this site and purchasing all the piece parts needed I finally had my exhaust installed on my 1983-911SC.I had SSI's installed,a used Leistritz 2 in 1 out factory muffler, the needed oil lines and backdated the heater ducts to the 74 style and it all looks and performs great!!! The muffler had been modified by the previous owner to remove some baffling and it sounds great,no resonance just a mild growl from idle to redline, and of course the SSI's are just a thing of beauty to look at.The car is now a little lighter than it was and I believe more powerfull,no dyno just seat of the pants.I would recommend this upgrade to anyone.I would like to thank all the Pelicanites that have answered my questions or had piece parts for sale,it is really appreciated!

Congrats on the install. How hard was it getting at those rusty exchanger bolts? Everyone around here makes it sound so easy. So does the "butt dyno" feel like it added the claimed ~20hp?
All of these posts about SSIs is making me want to go out and spend $1000 - $1200! |
It was real easy because I had my mechanic do it!!! I had done this once before on a 74-911 that I had,it is a messy job but with a torch its not too bad, this time around I decided to have a pro do it,I didn't want to mess with a possible broken exhaust stud and I didn't want to mess with the oil lines. As far as the power increase, most of the claims I have seen say they are good for around 20 hp and about 30 ft. lbs. torque,I would say the butt dyno says that is close. The car seems to pull stronger right off idle and thru the rev range so I think the increase is there.

Casey, do a search and you'll see lot's of advice on getting heat exchangers off. My 2 cents is to have it done by a pro. It's a crap shoot and I wasnt on the right side of the coin when I installed mine.
Good job rfuerst911sc, I'm sure the car sounds great! :) |
