Parking aid in garage
I want to park my car as close as possible to the right wall in my garage without risking to touch it. Is there any kind of electronic device that could warn me when I am, let us say, within 2 inches of the wall?

I park mine close to the right wall in my garage. I use the passenger door outer mirror as my guide, since its the furthest part that sticks out on the car.

When you hear scaping, you are too close.
Seriously, I also use my mirror and park at a slight angle so I don't have to turn the wheel to get out (And thus get the front even closer to the wall.)Noel |

Purchase a pair of boating "stand-offs" and hang them on the wall on the right side. These are the tubular items that prevent dock-rash when parking the boat against the dock. They are pretty cheap used.

Best aid I've used is the old tennis ball on-a-string hanging from the ceiling. Just hang it and match it up to the inspection sticker on your windshield when parked in the perfect position. When parking you'll find that it's an excellent and easy to negotiate guide.
Foam insulation sheets on the walls can be cheap insurance as well.

I second the Tennis ball on a string solution. Its great, just line it up and the car is parked perfect every time. Works much better than the 2 x 4 on the floor, and it doesn't get in the way when the car is out of the garage.

Tennis Balls.....sounds like a social desease... pa-leeze !
Here come the flames but....I found this laser pointer thingy at the local Try n' Save drug store that comes with an a/c adpter for about $9 close-out. Mounted it to the ceiling, pluged it in to the door opener light and lined it up to a pre-defined spot on the dash. Door opens, lights on, laser on. Never miss parking. Annal...yes but too cool for words. And I'm the only one who has one.

Hi Denis,
I bought in RadioShack the parking assistant and I cannot believe how accurate it is. I really like it. No more discussions every time I drive or the wife drives in the garage. Sometimes silence is priceless ![]() It comes with the AC adaptor so forget about batteries (just that is around 10 bucks). When I bought it the employees from RadioShack didn't know about it and they bought it right there! The price is very good. $19.99 http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F002%5F001%5F002%5F000&product%5Fid=63%2D1007 Bye -J

I have seen a sonar type device at Menards. Usually used to tell when you are close to the front. May be able to use on the side. Else there is always the wifeyometer.
