Get a ride on the track at Laguna Seca this weekend - Sept 13/14

Posted this over at the autocross and track forum previously, but I know that many of the people who frequent this forum dabble on the track, so I thought it would be of interest here too...
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hey gang,

If you want to get a ride in a track prepped Porsche on the world famous Laguna Seca track, this weekend is probably your best opportunity. The annual hot rod and custom car show "Cherry's Jubilee" is happening at Laguna Seca this coming weekend, September 12-14th.

As part of the event, some of the instructors from the local PCA region (GGR) give Hot Lap rides on the track. I believe the cost is $22 for 3 laps. All the money goes to the charity organization running the show, the Salinas Valley Medical Center, I believe.

We have about 30 drivers across 25 or so cars, ranging from my lowly stock-ish '86 Carrera to a brand new Cup car to a 700 HP, turbo-charged, 1900lb. '72 911 to a 500HP race prepped 928. There will be lots of great hardware and some excellent drivers, too.

So, if you want to get a ride, or you want to scare the bejesus out of a friend, spouse or SO, come out this weekend. I think we're doing the hot laps from 8am till late afternoon both Saturday and Sunday. Entry into the event (there are about 1200 vintage cars on display) is around $10, I think.

And, if you do come out, please find me and say hello! It's always nice to meet other Pelicanheads and put faces with names. My wife, Laura, and I drive the white cab - #908.

Hope you see some of you out there!

Dean

No A/C, no Sun Roof, no power windows. Fast and light, just the way I like it. (Sad to say, it's sold. But at least it remains with us on this board.)

Ok, maybe it's not as famous as I thought...

It is just outside Monterey, California. It's going to be fun, but not so much fun as to justify a drive from New Mexico.

Yahoo! maps says it's only 16 hours and 59 minutes. Leave Friday night, drive straight through and get there sometime in the morning on Saturday. Spend $300 on rides on the track through the weekend, throw up from motion sickness, then head out Sunday afternoon. Drive without stopping and you'll be back in time for work Monday morning!

Hey, it's for a good cause!!
