Anybody use a Webcam for video?

I have an autox coming up and would like to record it from inside the car. I have done a search on cameras and mounts. So, I have a decent idea on how to mount my video camera.

Just wondering how a webcam for a laptop would work?

Thanks!

I have a pretty good webcam that I've turned on maybe twice. I would think that the framerate and quality would not be satisfactory since the image looked pretty choppy when I wave my hand rapidly back and forth. However, it can't be all too difficult for you to mount it and drive around town, just to see how it would look.

Interesting... how would you rate your SC next to your Mustang?

I experimented with this a little and decided a camcorder was the better bet. Besides the camera, you'll want audio. You'll need a pc/laptop to for recording. The AX and DE guys are particular about things bumping around in the cabin. Then, of couse, high framerate video/audio is demanding in space and time. Think many megabytes per second.

It depends on which webcam, one utilizing like a firewire or usb2.0 hook up might work well since only those two have high enough transfer rates to give good quality to the video. But how to keep the laptop it's hooked up to from sliding around and falling over is all you.

Thanks guys! I knew about the technical limitations of this type of setup. Just curious if anybody has pulled it off. I will look into mounting the vid camera or getting some type of Lipstick type camera.

No comparison!

The Mustang is a heavy pig that, for some reason, doesn't feel as fast as it used to be once I began driving the pcar. Not as "torquey" (sp) feeling. Probably because of the weight. The SC feels light and nimble. I believe my SC is faster off the line. The SC is faster at highway speeds when I goose it and it def handles much better than the american iron.

Once I got used to the SC, I realized what a "real" sports car should feel like. My 8 yr old Mustang has more squeaks, rattles etc.. than my 23 yr old pcar.
I enjoy the Mustang but in a different way. I still enjoy the sound and feeling of V8 power under my foot every now and then.

Good idea but it will not give the frame rate that you need. The image would be wavey. You also need to thing about extra mounts for a laptop? which are not meant to be subjected to lots of motion whilst in action. The hard disk will crash if used in a car. Much better to buy or use a digital video. A lot cheeper to replace and you only need one mount. Think about battery and power supply as well.

Cheers

Mark....
