Porsche Crest 911 oil tanks

Quick question: did the 911 oil tanks change during it's life? Would an oil tank for a 69 be the same as the ones on the SC's or Carreras? I would appreciate any info, especially part numbers for tanks that would fit my 69.

Thanks!

I dont have any part numbers, but they have indeed changed over the years, but can be retrofitted easily by changing the oil line/fittings on your car to match whatever tank you put in. (all except the '72)

oil tanks: up thru 1968 part number 901 107 065 00
1969-1973 901 107 065 10
1974-1983 911 107 006 30 or 20
1984-1989 911 107 006 22
Now , you can update your system to accept a later tank, BUT you will have to cut the inner rear fender support wall (engine compartment wall) to fit it. You will also have to modify oil lines to match your motor and the tank. 74-89 tanks have the slip on and clamp S suction hose from tank to bottom of the cooler. Earlier tanks had screw on fittings on each end.
The larger tanks , from 74 upwards, are preferred due to the larger capacity on race cars
But for a street car, the oe smaller tank is just fine
I did not mention the 72 tank, because of the lack of all the parts (usually) in the used sector

I have an '87 tank in my '73. Went right in like it was supposed to be there.

My car is already equipped with a front passenger fender-mounted oil cooler and lines from an 80's 911. Should I assume that an oil tank from the same generation would be equipped to plumb into the cooler? Also, what cutting needs to be done on the inside of my engine compartment? I know the 911 has the filter mounted on the tank, accessible from the engine compartment whereas my 912 is completely different with both an engine mounted filter as well as a remote filter on one of the oil cooler lines behind the drivers-side rear wheel.

with an 80's cooler set up, the easiest thing to do is get a 74-89 tank. (clean used ones from us $150) find some car -74-89 - w/o a tank installed and trace the pattern to cut the oval for the oil filter/ filler neck combo of the later tank. Also the mounting holes can be traced too, as your 912 chassis has a solid panel there. If there isn't any in your area, maybe a pelicanite can send you a tracing of their car

Depending on which motor/ exhaust combo you have will determine what you need in the way of oil lines to hook up to the regulator / thermostat in front of the back tire/ right side. We have decent used ones cheap, but new ones are inexpensive from our host

btw- will you need the weld in engine mount brackets? we got em

Yes, engine mount brackets will be something else I'll need to consider. Do you have a website I can drool over?

I have a 911 0il tank in good condition. It is missing the filler neck and dip stick. Could not find a part no. so don't know what year it is. Will take $100.00 plus shipping. Located in Portland, Or. Email or phone if interested.

if it is missing the filler neck, then it is an early tank- pre 74- decent price though

If I may be so bold as to correct my employer:

Dave, I believe that the new tank design started in '73, not '74. This would explain why Dan swapped a later tank right into his '73.

OK, I'm getting closer. I picked up a 2.2L T engine that going to get a performance rebuild. Hoping to get 160+ hp from it (911E spec) with the Webers. Anyway, I still haven't bought an oil tank yet (or engine mounts/engine tin/exhaust/etc) but would like one that's ready to go and not missing parts. Heading over to check ebay...
