Shipping Companies for Engines?
Question for the folks who have shipped engines about. I've got to ship a complete 3.2 from PA to WA state. Any suggestions on the shipper and/or preparing the engine for shipping? I've sent engines in the past on a pallet, no crating. I don't have a commercial location for pickup, so I need a liftback truck. Speed is not of the essence, I'd prefer lower cost to faster, since I am making this selection for a buyer and don't want to spend more of his money than I have to.
Love to know your experiences. Thanks! Chris 3.2 = Sold 3.6 = Needs Install Soon! |

Try forward air, They are hands down the cheapest, but you have to drop it off and p/u from there terminals. It cost me 130 to send an engine to Canada(i'm in fla) and 130 to send a 3.3 to Seattle.

I have heard that Old Dominion was a good shipper, does anyone have experience with them?

I do not care for OD, but I could be wrong!
I use Watkins for all my Less Than Truckload (LTL) shipping. They are generally curteous, professional, and punctual. I have not had any damaged freight from them for over 18 months. We are the largest customer of Watkins in Waco. Packaging/palletizing of the load is critical. Specify: Do not top load, do not breakdown, to not stack. IMHO stay away from Yellow like the plague. But that is just my educated opinion and not necessarily a current one.
