My '87 has a tail, although others within the '84-'89 MY's don't. My question is: Why the difference? Was the tail part of an appearance package, or a handling package which were factory options? (I would assume, possibly incorrectly, that models sold with a tail would also have a different chin spoiler than those without, if the tail does indeed create any more rear downforce). I don't think that it was a difference between cars with or without A/C (the A/C condenser sits right under my tail), as I believe A/C was standard in those model years.
Anyone know the background of tail versus tail-less? Thanks, Tom

Yep, the tail was simply part of an optional "spoilers" package (option M473), and included the front rubber lip.
