opinions yoko AVS intermediate VS ES100

Looking for something with more bite. Tires are getting very hard to find in the performance class for my 85 carrera. 215/60 15 rear and 185/70 15 front. Already went to 195/65 15 AVS DB on the front as that is what the PO had on. He also had AVS intermediates on the rear. They seem to not have much bite. They are now a discontinued tire. I have read the reviews on this board of the ES100 and most appear to be positive. My question is there enough difference in the Es100 and the Intermediate to warrant replaceing the tires. They only have about 1500 miles on the intermediates. I know this may be a question for the AutoX board and I know you are trying to get that board going but as everyone has noted generally less response available and as the tires will take a week to order I need to decide in the next couple days to have them ready for my next spinout errr Event:-)

I have Yoko AVS ES100s on my Boxster. I really like them - they have good grip and good wet traction. I like them a little better than the Kumhos I had on my 911 - which I thought were pretty good tires at the time.

I'm going to order some ES 100s today, I was going to get the SO3s but the $200 difference can buy me new floatation devices (visors). I'm getting 205/55/15 front & 225/50/15 rear. They want $474 out the door from discount tire. I don't have time to mess with the tire rack. I know that the Bridgestones will be going on sale at Costco next month, but I need tires now.

Pschrup, Do you know what price Costco is going to sell them for? Would it be worth my joining Costco (for $35) just to get the tire there instead of from Tire Rack??

191.00 each rears and 153.00 each fronts mounted balanced, you of course in Oregon escape the sales tax of 8.8% here in Washington.

Randy, if I recall from the last time they were on sale, bottom line they were about the same price. Costco is cheaper because of no shipping & free mounting. If you give them a call the sale price is like $60 less a set than normal.

Paul the prices in my above posting were Costco's prices for SO-3's. Yes less $60.00 on the Bridgestone promotion.

I just replaced a set of Intermediates with ES100s on my '88 Carrera, and the main difference I notice is slower turn-in - there's definitely more lag in the response time. The ultimate grip is still the same (great), the steering just doesn't feel as immediate as it did with the Intermediates.

Thx -- if I save $60 + save shipping ($40??) - lose membership cost, it sounds worthwhile.

I've got ES100s on the Saab and they make it handle as well as the Carrera.

OK, not really, but I would say the offer best bang for the buck in performance tires.

I've got S03s on the targa and love them.

Since tires are the only thing connecting you to the road, they are the second to last things I would try to save a buck on, brakes being first.

Thanks Wavey for the comparison. I guess I will just keep the intermediates as they are still practically new.

Don't worry, it won't be that long ! I wore my rears out in 6K miles, and there were no alignment or pressure problems - just flat worn out. I do tend to drive a little hard. :>

I have had the ES100's for about a year now on my 83SC and they are holding up very well and performing very well. I had the Bridgestone RE730's.... two sets, liked them alot, decided to try the Yoko's for comparason... for the money the ES100's are an excellent street tire.

I have them up front. Excellent street tire for the money. I paid $79 for 205/55/16's from tire rack. When my pirelli's wear out in the back I'll put ES100's in the back.

We have the ES100 on the Brick and I like them. There were Michelin Pilots on it before and I felt and big difference after the change. Now the Pilots were worn and I can't really compare them against new tires but the 100s are very quiet and the car as a much more, how can I explain this, square or flat feeling. What I mean is it feels more "sure-footed". I was talking to a tire store owner recently and he noticed my tires and asked how I liked them. He said that a lot of good things were being said about them.

Oh, and I paid about $75 each at Discount Tire. I told him the Tire Rack price and they matched and mounted them for less than the shipping would have been. In this case, it was more advantageous to go through Discount.

I had AVS dB on my 911 and wish that I had gotten ES100's.

I have got them on my Acura, and they are great. I got mine at discount tire for 380 otd with the $50 lifetime warranty (which if you have ever blown out a tire beyond repair, it is certainly worth $50) I got them to price match tirerack.com's price plus shipping, which saved me about $40. They are great in the rain, too
