Are Broken Head Studs a Carrera Issue Too?

I've searched the forum and I've only found scant evidence about Carrera's (84+) & broken head studs.

What's the definitive word? Or is it merely an age issue that will appear more frequently?

It has come up a time or two, but the frequency seems to be much, much less than with the SC's.

It happens to these models too. Same as the SC's. Rarer though.
Check the boards for what replacements are now the norm.

Ian...do a search for a thread called something like "how many miles on your car"

old skul did some charts which showed the rebuild/major repair rates of all of the stages of 911 cars from the early cars, through the 2.7s, then SCs and on to Carreras. Interesting stuff which confirms reputations for reliability.

1984 was about the time the factory switched to the black coated head studs. While some owners report a few cases of these breaking as well, the frequency seems to be much less than for the earlier silver or gold-plated versions that were installed in earlier cars.

Let's cross our collective fingers (I've got them on my 2.7).

Thanks for the info guys.

It would seem that an '85 or '86 might be a 'sweet spot' for a pre-G50 3.2.

Sonic dB - I haven't found that thread yet, but I'll keep searching . . .

For any others that are interested, I found the thread here:

The Results

Certainly a testament to the reliability of the 911.

Thanks again

Ian
