964 DME disassembly - how?
I'm trying to get my DME apart. There are two cards, hinged together with a ribbon. But I can't figure out how to slide the top one out so I can 'open the book' of the two boards.
Anyone who's done this who can give me a quick idiot's guide? |
From memory, you stick something narrow and bladelike into the connector socket above (or maybe below) the top row of pins in a couple of places to release plastic "catches". The top row of pins is connected to the top board. Does that make sense?

There should be a plastic pedestal standoff around the ribbon that separate from each other. You need to grip the mounting ears with both hands and push up on the upper PC board where the two plastic pedestals connect to the board. You should be able to unsnap and separate the pedestal mounting standoffs. Be careful not to push up on the corners of the PC board or it could flex and break.

Makes sense, but I put a screwdriver in there, repeatedly, but it didn't loosen it up. I'm thinking there might be one more catch that I'm missing, although I got all the obvious ones.

Id like to see some pics of one opened up .. anyone ?

1) At the front of the DME (where the harness connector attaches) there are 2 catches, one at either end. Insert 2 small screwdrivers under the tabs.
2) At the opposite end of the board there are the standoffs between the two boards (at the end of the boards where the ribbon wire is) pop these pegs apart (one on each side). 3) Looking back at the front end of the DME (where you have the screwdrivers stuck in) take a 3rd screwdriver and pop the top row of pins below the lip on the connector housing, the board will pull out. It would make more sense with pictures, but since my DME is off getting repaired I don't have it in front of me to provide a photo. Check out figure 8 here http://www.programainc.com/files/404.pdf for an idea of what I am talking about in step 3. Todd |
Snap the two posts at the back of the DME board apart. Then insert wo screwdrivers (or toothpicks) into the tabs at the front. Then the tough part. The top portion of the book does not just slide out. You have to finess. I believe that when lifting the rear you apply pressure down on the front and pull back. There should be no resistance when it is free. You do not have to force it. Just find the G sport and it will come, out.
