Key Blank Question

My original key is tired, the teeth are getting worn and the shaft is bent from age and use. Remember, it's my ignition key I'm talking about. Anyway, I ordered a new key from Pelican and it arrives with the rest of the medical supplies. I take it into the locksmith to get it cut today and he shows me that the new key has the grooves in the shaft on the opposite side as the existing key. It won't work.

So, I'm wondering did Pelican send the wrong key, do I have a unique set up, or what?

On my original key looking at it with the head toward me and the shaft pointing away, the grooves are on the right. The key from Pelican has the grooves on the left. Sorry, no digital camera to take pics.

Anyone with and 86 or knowledge of this please tell me which way your key is configured.

Your best bet may be to go to a Porsche dealership and give them the chassis number of your car and ask them to get a new key cut from the factory records in Germany. There is no point in geting a copy of an already worn out key as it may damage your ignition lock. Lots cheaper in the long run.

Bill,

I've got the original spare key to use to cut the key, plus the key numbers. The point is, the key I ordered from Pelican will not work in my car. I'm looking to compare my keys configuration with respect to the grooves to others.

Pelican sent you the key for a 993. Same thing happened to me. You need to call them, get an RMA and specify that you need a key for a a pre 89 car.

Thanks Jeff. Thought that was it. Seems they have a glitch in the system for this. I've sent an e-mail to Pelican, haven't called yet.
