964 Door panel removal

How do you remove the locking knob on a 964 door panel so that you can remove the panel? I've prised the cap off, and unscrewed the screw. I can't see anything else to do, but the panel won't come off. I don't want to pull too hard either incase there is something I haven't removed. Lol, what am I mising?

The big round black plastic base also unscrews.

To clarify, you need to unscrew the base itsself. It spins off from the door.

Hmmm, I can't get the base to turn at all, at least I know what I should be doing now. Thanks!

I'm at the point where I'm bruising my hand trying to turn the base and it's not budging. Any ideas?

Hmmmm..... I've never come across one that was difficult to unscrew. May be corroded? I guess keep trying.

Good luck!

whew... soak in WD40, wait 15 minutes, put on welder's gloves, turn as hard as you can... it finally broke loose though.
