Idle screw setting question
CIS 80 3.0L
The large screw on the side of the throttle body to adjust the idle speed has been moved WAY out of range and I need to know how to get it back close enough to get it to run. In other words can I unscrew it all the way out and then turn it a set number of turns to get into the park? Thanks Rick |
Idle setting/adjusting needs to take place at operating temps, same as oil level measurement. You can see your tach in the dash from the engine compartment while turning this screw by hand. Just get it running and turn it clockwise to decrease, counter to increase . When you've driven it to 180 degrees, stop and adjust it to ~1000 rpm's...my '74 is set to 950, your idle setting may vary, refer to your manual for the exact rpm.

To get in the ballpark, screw it all the way IN, then back it out one to one-and-a-half turns. Once you get the engine running, do what BigChillCar sez.
