Car shows and modified Porsche cars

It appears if your Porsche is modified its chances of winning in its class are about Zero. Most Porsche people seem to think that if its not totally original it doesn't deserve to win. No matter what condition its in. Why is that?

Concours is not my game. However, judging is typically, not only condition but also originality.
A modified car would also be much harder to evaluate in concours even with period modification.

If you mean "concours" type events which are predicated on some level of (usually total) originality; modifications to your car means it doesn't have a "class", it's "modified" (you may as well be upset that your lawn tractor or fishing boat can't win). There are "open" events for modified or customized cars, but I admit, the only ones I've heard of are for American hot-rods and customs not Porsches. At the few concours I've been to (for Porsches) there generally is an area for "display" cars that can't enter the competition because their modifications take them "out of class" but are of interest to the attendees. A lot of "Porsche people" are very interested in modified cars (just look at the posts on this board), but most concours are designed around original cars. Perhaps you could be instrumental in creating an event for modified cars in your area or "attaching" a modified-cars judging as an adjunct to an established local concours. Talk to your local club, there may be many others there who would like to see such an event.

Good luck,

DP, I don't know why that is either, but I wouldn't sweat it. I've seen your car(the blue one right?) It rocks. Michael

Thank you, Michael for the compliment. It was a people's choice type event, not concours. Maybe its just the area I live in. Seems like the people involved in my club mostly believe in total originality. I must say I hate to see an old Corvette modified. I just love the way they look stock, so I can understand the reasoning. But if you asked my wife to describe me, it would be Mr. aquisition and modification.....no matter what it is.
My friend has a 1982 930 with a few modifications and he seems to run into the same problem at these events.
Jerry, good idea. I live close to Lime Rock and it would be great to get a show together that would feature race cars and modified Porsche's.
Thanks cegerer, that website is great...
