i took a lot of pictures of great cars
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063601489.jpg also some "not so great cars" worked on by some owners who probably shouldn't quit their day job. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063601585.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063601602.jpg license plate numbers altered to protect the guilty... max |
My photos should be coming soon!

I had fun parading around the Concour weenies with my chop top 356 and the umbrella duct taped to the roll bar. Got some wierd looks but most liked my worst in show impression......%^P

I'm with you on that Milt. I brought mine - rust holes and all - still had a great time. It even had it's picture taken !?! It's an ongoing "project" just doing one thing at a time as time and money allow. It keeps my energy and interest going by driving it as it gets fixed and upgraded. Not all of us can afford - or are willing - to put a car up for a lot of years for the full on restoration thing.

The gray Turbo in this picture was in rough shape but I liked it very much. In a sea of shiney cars it stood out and look like an old warrior that had seen many battles.
I saw it leave and the owner said it needs paint and I told him it looked great the way it was. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063677588.jpg |
my point on the silver car was not so much about its condition, but the owner's addition of the jumbo whale-tail over the 185 tires.
on the red car, the passenger side headlight , turn signal lenses, and horn grilles look like they were installed by someone slightly 'dangerous' with a screwdriver. sorry if the lightheartedness of my comments were mistaken as harsh critisism. guess i should have inserted a ;) . I have been the semi-proud owner of a few beaters myself; including a '57 Chev pickup that the previous owner was using for a doghouse! max |
And my point is that when I got my car, it had a similar Carrera tail on it which leaves as soon as I can find a decent stock lid. Maybe this guy didn't do the tail and came to GAF to buy parts or get ideas. I know I learned a ton of information looking at others cars. That is half the reason I went.
Maxine, I'll consider your comments *lighthearted.*:) Do we make up and shake hands now? |
http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/beerchug.gif cheers Zeke. :)
and now back to our regularly scheduled program....more pictures!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063681047.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063681068.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063681086.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063681098.jpg |
Zeke, I don't know man, I follow a different philosophy. My car wasn't in presentable condition by my standards so I didn't bring it out last year......this year I couldn't come because of family obligations, but that's a different story. I will rarely ever drive my car dirty or with a busted front valence or if I have an exhaust leak, forget about taking it to a show. Any time I take the 911 out it's always in clean, presentable condition. I can't stand seeing early Ss with 993 turbo wings and rust hanging off the 1/4 panels, it's just nasty and in poor taste IMHO. But, it's your car, do what ya want and enjoy it how ya like.

Zeke, did you just call me Maxine?? Now that's hitting below the belt...or the tutu !! LOL
red car below is a rare 993 Turbo S http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063682957.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063682985.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063683005.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1063683059.jpg |

All I have to say is it don't need perfect feathers to fly and sing. Many old scruffy birds are up there every day showing some good moves. |
I like looking at them all!!
I love the blood seat and tears (and $$) cars as much or more than the garage storage queens. the owners always have way better stories! It is just the cars that I see that are going into a bad decline because of the current owner that bugs me a bit. Of course, that is just my opinion!! A guy taking a neat old 912 with some "patina" and putting on a slant nose kit with a huge tail over the four-banger makes me think the car is in a decline. again, just my opinion. Hey, i even like MikeZ's 356!!! Although i was snooping around his spot to find his Sawzall and remove the brushes from the electric motor to disarm it!! ;) max |
It takes all kinds, certainly. One of my favorite 911s ever is Tyson Schmidt's 'Scruffy.' He'd clean it and wax it, I'm sure, if it had any paint on it. ;)

That’s one of the good pics! Doesn’t show the true soul of Scruffy though. :)
I couldn’t believe that Tyson parked out in the lot next to my truck. I told him it deserved to be inside w/ the rest of the cars but he didn’t want to do it. I’ve really grown to love that car just the way it is. |
Sometimes the beauty is on the inside.
Tyson just dropped MFI back in Scruffy and by all reports it's running great. My '77 looks even scruffier than Scruffy, but mechanically it kicks arse. Yes, I plan a full cosmetic resto on the '77. But I still like driving it just the way it is. I still get smile when I drive it. Nothing wrong with that. |
