Questions about my first Porsche.
 

Last week I purchased and received my dream car, a unrestored, one-owner, '71 911T. I purchased the car sight unseen and it exceeded my expectations. I completely combed the car for flaws and found only a few areas of slight surface corrosion. The driver indicated he never took it our in the winter and the undercarriage proves it, however, due to washing/rain there are a few areas where moisture/dirt collected and one of them is between the fender and the tub if you are looking past the door hinges. Again this is only a bit of surface rust, however, at my current neurosis stage I am contemplating having the fenders removed and having these areas cleaned up (along with under the hood which is dirty) to prevent further problems.

My question is...is this going overboard?? This car is so pristine I just want to keep it that way. Thanks!

i would drive it for a few months before you get into "bodywork"......get a feel for the car before you start taking it apart unless it needs immediate attention, other than the basics (oil/plugs/etc.) i didn't touch mine for at least 3 months after i bought it.
if you don't have "101 projects" (written by our host) ......then you need to get it, it'll explain many things and will help you get familiar with your new 911.

Congratulations…she’s a beauty. I agree with Bell and would drive her awhile before doing any “bodywork”. Trust me…the neurosis doesn’t go away but you will likely develop a lengthy list of “projects” you will want to do in the near future. The problem is prioritizing and coming up with the necessary cash. I made the mistake of quickly making some cosmetic changes immediately after purchasing my 1977 911S (replaced all of the carpet); however, after driving her for several months I identified other mechanical projects that I would have definitely prioritized before the cosmetic changes.

Looks good. My first was a '73T that I enjoyed for 7 years. I intended to fix small rusty spots on mine but never did. I just drove it and had fun.
