What do you think of this 2.2L ?
Here is the listing on eBay:
I have a friend that has a '73T in storage with an engine that will need a lot of work. He is thinking about finding an engine to swap it out. How much do you guys think is realistic to pay for an engine like this one and how much to budget to make it right? Although I am a die hard checkbook wrench - my friend will be doing a lot of the work himself Any and all advice will be appreciated!! Thanks,

Looks like a good used engine, possibly. However, probably no way to see it run, or have any tests done before purchase, making it's history a wild card.
It could run well for another 50 to 100K miles, or it could have some existing problem; why was it removed? why was nothing ever done with it for 10 years+ ?? It's worth somewhere between $1800 and $2500 as is, IMO. If it could be shown to have good bearings, rings, guides, etc. well it could be worth as much as $4000 or even more to the right person. It's only a T after all, even if it is MFI.. a total restoration would be very costly..

I would think this engine has some value, a big chunk of which is in the MFI setup, although the oil filter assembly appears to be missing. You may want to enquire as to availability.
All the bits appear to be there but ask about the stacks, and the throttle bodies, especially, and the pump number. All this said, my own view is that the current bid ($1,000) is close to what it's worth, considering the most proabable condition of the various components. |

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies! This engine is located fairly close to my friend and he may go take a look.
I will pass this information and questions on to him as well as a link to this thread. Keep 'em coming. You guys rock! Thanks again!!

He claims it comes out of a 1973 911 which would make it a 2.4, but he states it is a 2.2 and the air intake nozzle looks like the 2.2 nozzle so I suspect the engine is pre '72.

It is interesting to note that Unclezak, who buys & seels these lumps all the time, did not bid above $1000 on the auction...?
