911 Engines FAQ
I apologize for the newbie question! Is there an FAQ that deals with the performance upgrades that can be done to the different 911 engines. I'm looking for a table that will show what cams, pistons (compression ratio), bore, crankshafts etc will fit the different engines, and what power output the final combination will make.
If such a table/FAQ doesn't exist I'd like to create one with your help. I'd like to start with either the 2.4 or 2.7 engines... Thanks in advance -- Antoni |
The possibilities are endless.

Your best bet for a start is to buy Bruce Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance Handbook. That should get you going.
By the way, a while back a bunch of us posted dyno sheets here listing the basic mods, if any, and the engine type. You may want to search for that thread. |
I remember such a table in Wayne's engine rebuild book...

I'm going to order it right now! And Bruce Anderson's book too. Thanks for the information. I appreciate it, Antoni

I think it would be a useful thing to compile the mods. BA has discussed a few more in his Exl. and Pano columns (the book is getting a bit old). Wayne has that table in his book, and a discussion of the various hotrodding options -- one thing I didn't see was the feasability of using MFI in a big engine (3.2 or larger). Seems like it gets really hard to find a space cam. It would be good to see if all of BA's new configurations (in his later columns) are mentioned in Wayne's book.

Where can I find copies of Bruce Anderson's Exl. and Pano columns (without buying tons of back issues...)? I definitely would like to know more! TIA -- Antoni

Maybe somebody could post them for you, or e them to you? I don't think I have the coumns themselves saved, but I do have a large amount of relatively undigested engine info I can Email you. If you want it, e me at xdrw@att.net.
- Randy PS -- You might just send Bruce an Email and ask him which engines he or Jerry has info on that were done later than his book. He may have it all saved somewhere, and he does respond (sporadically) to Email. Also, why not take his course and ask him in person. It's very educational. You might also ask Wayne as he interacted with BA in wriitng his book. I'd do that first. |
