Are upper valve covers the same for all 911s through 1989?

Well the subject line says it all - I am looking for a set of used valve covers to powder coat and then put into my 1986 930 during the next valve adjustment. Does it matter what year car they are from? Anybody have a set they want to get rid of? Thanks.

Bill

Garage
Don't think so, since 930 covers are supposed to be an improvement on my SC.

Frye, Frye ??

The 930 exhaust valve covers are an improvement but I think the intake valve covers are the same acrros the board. I believe Porsche may have switched form a magnesium material to aluminum someitme in the 70s, but I wanted to confirm that. Maybe Bruce Anderson's book will tell me.

EDIT - and so it did - don't know why I didn't look there first. Per BA, the valve covers change from Magnesium to Aluminum in mid year of 1977 (he also says mid year 1975 at another spot) and the upper covers were the same through 1989.

So anyone have a set of upper Aluminum valve covers sitting around?

This should be in BA's book, but I don't recall any changes.

You can collect a few sets and change to a different version with your valve adjustments:
Silver (stock)
Black with silver "PORSCHE" logo
Red with silver "PORSCHE" logo
Black with red "PORSCHE" logo
Red with black "PORSCHE" logo

That's my plan.

My current ones are fine but the black paint on them is flaking off. So I want to have a set powder coated black with the logo left silver and swap them out at the valve adjustment. I will then strip the current set and maybe have them painted to match the car color for variety.
