So here I sit, family evac'd, opened a nice silver oak cab and with Isabel barreling down, I have the hankering to work on my car. The question is, since I put my car on jacks stands, is it risky to be under her with the wind gusting at 75mph out there?

The other Q is which would you recommend tackling first, throttle body rebuild (high idle, but runs strong), or mfi pump rebuild (don't know that it needs it, but am shooting for a freshening of the system).

Why not do both, take the whole damn fuel system apart. That is what I plan to do as soon as the weather changes here. As long as there is no earthquakes I don't think the car will fall on you. I would be more concerned about drowning from the storm surf. Good luck & remember that most hurricanes pick up speed just before they hit landfall, least that's what they said on the news this morning.

This is your opportunity! Dive in! Check the gutters, and look for big trees that could hit the garage, then take a couple cold brewskies, your fave CDs, and dive in. Enjoy your peace and (relative) quiet!!

(That said, call Gus at Pacific Injection and inquire to the wait time. 3 mos wouldn't surprise me. Are you ready for that downtime?)

send all my ladies to Asheville, the visited the Biltmore and are pigging out on room service after a dip in the indoor pool. I get the animals....thin we're ready, but may have lots of parts for sale after this is over....any interest in a sweet 70E with about 8K on a full 8K+ rebuild?

street level is about 6ft above mean high tide around here..

sometimes you can go Stripped Bass fishing with a garden rake on the street in front of my house. The young ones will grab a row boats for fun. Although LI missed this party, the odds of this sandbar being washed away falls into the "once every 70yrs"cat.

Welcome to the hurricane.

The ocean kicked up a bit to 6-10ft inshore. The current is still on a rip, especally out past the rock jettys. Speed at minimum minimum is probably around 3knots.. it depends on the position of the S sweep of the current as in enters and leaves between the jettys. Winds are about 20-30 w/higher spikes to 40-50. Almost good board action except for the winds.. Can't fish it, so might as well body surf.. So a few guys do along the strip. You gotta be strong and serious for that action. In days of old, etc, etc.

So a local 40yr old does it, among others. He's probably been body surfing since he's 5yrs old.. So this is a pic taken right after he lost it before dusk.. the horror, the horror.... the horror

I have a buddy who is always trying to get me to come surfing with him. he's about 40, works in the city during the week, and guards at jones beach on the weekends. I'm always too busy to drop everything on short notice, but I'm always tempted..........

I take it the guy you are refering to has vanished. If so, some will say it was his own fault., and they would be right. And it puts emergency guys in harms way, and they'd be right. But it's still sad.

Since this country started underwater rescue a little over 10years ago the ratio of cold water drownings that actually walk out of the hospital to the number of rescue divers dead from training and attempted rescues is about 1 : 1 . This is not up-dated numbers. It's a very complicated issue.
Cold water drownings is 70degF water and below.

Bad stuff. I know when we lived in FL, a lot of folks were eager for time on the big surf kicked up by approaching storms. Sometimes things go wrong. What's worse is if it puts others in harm's way. I was watching on TV yesterday, an interview with a young woman and her really young children that didn't evac prior to the advancing storm. Right after that, the VA Beach fire chief says he's ordering his guys to stand down due to the extreme risks to them. People just need to understand that they're not invincible and that sometimes no one is going be there to bail them out.

Sad story indeed. Not much to add, except I feel for those left behind. Family grief is a horrible thing.

Alive and well, but what a night! We had a tornado rip through as well and slicked our front yard, another opportunity to rethink our landscape theme. The ***** of it is the 60+ foot oak that is blocking my garage. Half way through, but my neighbors chain saw ain't gonna get the rest. Also removed a 40+ foot oak threatening to fall the REST of the way onto my back roof, a bradford pear and two pines yet to cut up....I've been at it for 8 hours and am wiped out. Only minor damage otherwise. Was out in water to my knees evacing the neighbors after their house sendond story was caved in. Sad, the meeting of a 350K+ house and a 60 foot tree is expensive.
Good news though, my 70E stayed high and dry!

I would not touch the MFI pump, period.

John, finished a 96 alexander valley, have a 96 and 97 left in storage. You would also like the 95 Silverado special reserve, can get all of em routinely for 6-65 on winebid. Planning an Acacia Pinot tonight....
