Interior - Street/Track

Looking at doing some work in on the interior of my SC. Looking at make it more street/track friendly. Car is mostly original, but is getting a little worn out. Specifically, looking at updating seats (Sparco etc.), roll cage, door panels, rmove back seats, re-carpet, steering wheel, doing a little weight saving changes etc..etc...

Suggestions and pictures of what you have done would be appreciated. Looking at some more ideas will definitely help me.

Thanks

Andy

Sounds more track than street... teel us what you really plan on doing.

What percent street vs. track.

Maybe you are saying that you want to be able to take it to the track, but you will occasionally drive it to work or a brief trip, so you want seats that are comfortable for longer drives?

One thing about steering wheels... if you go with a smaller diameter, you may lose some gauge visibility. Try and find a car with a similar wheel to see if you like the "view" of your dash.

Rollbars can sometimes make getting in and out of your car a pain.

Do you want to be able to keep the stock seatbelts AND have safety harnesses, or do you want just one type?

You can save some weight (10 lbs or so) on carpet by going to lightweight RS felt carpets.

Good luck!

There is not one ounce of sound deadening left, only carpet, and a Heigo cage, 8 points modified. The light on the main hoop is a fog light, wired as a third brake light.

Thanks guys....basically still want the car street driveable for the odd trip to the office or weekend getaway...nothing too long for trips. In terms of street vs. track percentage..I would say 70/30. I can live with a little less luxury for a lighter, safer, sportier look.

Keep the pictures and suggestions coming...

andy- Im restoring the interior of my '74. A previous owner upholstered it himself in an aweful blue vinyl with blue carpets. Im going to replace it with new "whisper" black vinyl trim and tan faux-suede (may use ultra-suede later if I can afford it). Im putting in a new tan carpet set, removing the rear seats, and am going to use DIY-upholster RS door panels from appbiz.com because restoring the original ones will cost about twice as much. The RS panels are wicked-cool too. Eventually I'll replace the seats with a nice set of Cobras or Recaros. Basically Im going to use Tom Sharpes interior restoration tips from here on Pelican Parts as a guide, I suggest you look at it if you haven't already. So far, the hardest part has been getting all the materials to start the job. Fabric, hardboard, good vinyl, tools, etc. I expect to have it cleaned up in about a month from now, I'll post the pics ASAP. Good luck with your changes.

Andy-

The leather-covered "RS" style Recaro Pole Positions are pretty nice. You get fairly easy entry/exit and nice leather with the rigidity (fixed-back), and restraint capability of a race seat. Not to mention they look awesome! They are a bit spendy though. Do a search here for "FVD seats", and you should find a thread or two with some pictures/links.

George that Cage is wild, never seen one like that

I just did my interior (on the cheap) I cant wait to show some pics but I dont have a camera, maybe get some shots in a few days. I think mine is perfect for what you and I do.

Roll Bar- back half
sporty steering wheel
foot rest
Rear seat delete
Aftermarket sporty seats
Get rid of some but not all of the sound deadning
RSA door panels (not in yet)
Attachments for snap in race harness but stock belts for street use.

Its sorta in the spirit of the original RS a gentlemens track car that still is streetable.

One really easyfor-the-track "simplification" that I just did was to remove the big carpeted pockets from my door panels. Going to plain RS door panels would be even better, but I suspect that taking off those silly pockets saves almost as much weight and for my money looks a lot better than the panels do with the pockets in place. I never used 'em for anything anyway.
