Porsche VIN help

Hi.

My brother is considering purchasing a roller for a project. The vehicle has the following VIN and it is advertised as a 70T. However, when I look up the vin on various websites it doesn't seem to fit into the ranges. . Any help would be most appreciated..

9110120407

Thanks,
Alan

Looks like a 70T to me. I borrowed this document from someone on rennlist. It shows 911 012 0001 to 911 012 4126 to be a 70T coup. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Which various websites? If you are looking at the Carfax type of sites, then VINs before 1981 (I think) don't make sense to them. I guess that it wasn't until 1981 that VINs were standardized to the 17 digit format which is still used as of today.

Therefore, trying to get any vehicle history for a pre-1981 car is pretty hard. I would think that you would need to go straight to the DMV records for that, but I would not wish that task on anyone unless the car is potentially VERY special.

looks to me like a 1970 911T Karmann Coupe number. "Porsche Family Tree", as published by PCA lists that model as VIN# 911012001 thru
9110124126

I guess there is no way to tell if it was originally a sportomatic by the chassis number?

I'm not sure but I think all Sportos were built by Porsche so being a Karmann chassis it probably didn't come with a Sporto.
