What is the meaning of R.O.W. ?
I think it has to do with "original" or "European" but what is the exact meaning? Thanks!

From the Porsche 911 Red Book:
"Because emissions, noise, and/or safety laws have varied between countries at times, Porsche has built cars that are specific to meeting those laws. This has been particularly the case for cars delivered to the United States and Canada. Cars not identified for a specific country are referred to as "Rest of the World" (RoW) models. "Rest-of-the-world" -- it ends up meaning not for the US/Canada market, because we were the ones with the big market share and the odd, single-market legislation. And of course, we're America, so we put put ourselves at the center of everything, even German car manufacturing. |

Thanks...Jack BTW: two weekd ago I was cruising very near my home when I "ended up" right behind a georgeous black 930 with California license plates and some (I forgot which...) so-cal reference (sticker or something...). Car turned off very soon I was too bashful to flash my headlights at him from behind, but ...mmm... very nice car, would have liked to exchange a few words with that person.. |
they had to detune porsches for the US market, so ROW means you have a bit more power.
something about americans not being able to handle it....... ONLY KIDDING !!!!!! [runs away quickly :-) ] |
ROW cars CAN be imported to the US and the Great Satan of Kalifornia. They have to be Federalized with safety glass, bumpers, lighting and other things.... and meet the State smog standards.
