75 911s anniversary edition

Can anyone tell me how much would be too much to pay for a 75 911s anniversary edition. Or can you tell me what a fair price range would be. The car is of course silver. It was professionally painted about a year ago. 2.7 motor, cookie cutter wheels with Pirelli p600's that are fairly new. No sunroof. The car has AC but it does not blow cold at all. Interior is is excellent condition with original tweed intserted seats and tweed door and rear panels. Carpet is new. It has trumpet style front fender mounted oil cooler. 53k original miles. Floors are all sound and only light surface rust around battery and pedal assembly. Thanks.

I looked at one recently, 78k original miles, documentation since new, had rips in the drivers seat and a cracked dash, several minor oil leaks, needed new tires, A/C didn't work. It sold for around $8500.

Off the top of my head I would have to say $14k if the car is as nice as you say. More if the car has good documentation, evenmore if the head studs have been upgraded. Limited edition adds about $2k to the car over a like optioned car. My guess & what someone will pay for it in this soft market are probable two different things.

I would definetly be concerned about the head studs. Have they been done? Does the car have thermal reactors? Carrera tensioner upgrades? 11 blade fan etc.. If you want to have the car checked out properly call Butch Stokes near Pembroke Pines Blvd. (954) 458 0044

I have a cherry '74 model, comparable in specs to this one, low miles, very clean, etc. I don't know how much the 'anniversary' adds to the value either, 2k seems a little much, especially in a strong buyer's market like we have right now. '75 probably still has the thermal reactors which by design made the car run hotter and tended to shorten life between rebuilds by the pulling out of the head studs in the magnesium case, later cars used aluminum. 53k is extremely low miles and 50k was the estimate for this particular models engine lifeti,e between rebuilds - a good point for the buyer to mention. If the case has never been opened, it will probably need it unless the car is a one owner babied car...maybe. the fix was to use timecerts and helicoils with either dilavar or better, the old steel studs. the timecerting gives the studs something firmer to hold onto in the soft mag. This is the primary issue, IMO. Nest the upgraded oil fed chain (carrera) tensioners, aux. oil cooler, particularly if you've got the thermals. Coupes are more desireable than Targas for a variety of reasons -structural integrity, leakage, etc. Sounds like the appearance is excellent, interior and exterior both. This could be an outstanding mid-year car and pristine examples are getting harder to find. I would think that in a seller's market the 14k could be attainable from the right buyer if the head stud mods have been addressed, but in a buyer's market if it hasn't I might go to 10-11k with good records. Let me know if you have more specific questions or get more info. on the car. If I were the seller, I'd hold onto it until the market improved if I didn't have to sell.

If it is a 1975 49 state car it does not have thermal reactors.

My '75 had exchangers similar to my Carrera 3.2 without the cat. i think it had a resonator instead. Don't remember exactly I pulled them almost imediatly and put on headers.

Only California cars had thermal reactors in 1975.

How much would it cost to have the head studs replaced?

Assuming you'd be paying a wrench, the engine has to come out -several thousand.

bcheney,

I own one of these Silver Anniversary cars. It is my daily driver after a complete mechanical overhaul. It is beautiful to me and drives wonderfully. I second the rest regarding the head studs and also valve guides. The cost of rebuilding these 2.7s can be quite high, as it was for me. I had all the normal mods done as well as a few performance mods. The car runs great and I have over 6,000 miles on the rebuild. Just keep in mind that if you buy the car for $14,000 and it needs an engine rebuild, you may pay $10K for a really nice rebuild. I bought my, cosmetically cherry, tired engine car for $8200 three years ago. I have probably $15K in it total for the mechanical work. But, I love the car and drive it daily. Just something to think about.

1. need the time certs for the head studs.engine pull, pistons and cylinders, machining etc. rebuild about $6K to ??k (the while in there problem)
2. head studs. when above is done
2. need the oil fed chain tensioners. 300+
3. need 11 blade fan. 200+
4. make sure the distributor is a bosch not a marelli (cant get parts). $300?
5. clutch $600+
6. if it has thermal reactors new system is 1000+
7. turbo valve covers $90
our engine has all of this that was done in 96 for ovear $6900.00 except for turbo valve covers.

be wary or it can cost a lot of cash,,but when it is done the engine runs nice and sounds sweet as can be.
