How To: Identify 2.7RS MFI pump
Morning kids,
I'm looking at a MFI set up for the new race motor (this thing is eating $$$'s like you wouldn't believe - 7R case, 10.5:1 pistons, twin plug heads....) How do I tell if the MFI pump is 2.7RS or 2.4E? - can you tell from the serial no. on the pump?? (It is very close to the no. on the pump of a real RS I have compared it to that I know has its original pump) Is there something you can measure - stroke of the cam?? The rest of the setup appears to be ridgy-didge 2.7RS - 36 to 38mm throttle bodies etc Any help greatlly appreciated Cheers - Ryan |

The first seven numbers are always 0408 126 followed by three more numbers which give you the type of pump as follows
69' E 002 69' E 006 69' S 001 69' S 005 70/71' E 010 70/71' S 009 72/73' T 015 72/73' E 014 72/73' S 013 72/73' S 021 These are the Bosch numbers that are written on the pump. I don't have the number for the RS pump. I got these out of the check,measure adjust manual.

How do you check if the space cam is 2.7RS or not??

This guy could probably tell you if there was a way to ID the cam without taking the pump apart:
Pacific Fuel Injection (Gus Pfister) Suite B, 153 Utah Av South San Francisco, CA Tel. 650-588 8880 I think you should probably assume you have a T cam in your T pump. The RS cam is available if you decide to rebuild your pump to RS specs. I think the S and RS pumps have the same specs but maybe Warren Hall or someone else can clear this up...

I believe Otto (http://www.ottosvenice.com/) has a real RS pump available for sale and I bet he would "deal" on it.
