clutch and brake problems
I'm having a bit of problems with my 1970 911. I posted quite a bit earlier about a clutch problem causing gear grindage when shifting even when the clutch pedal is all the way down. Now the problem has excalated. I went to start the car the other day while it was in gear, with the clutch pedal fully depressed of course, and the car lurched forward. Would this more likely be a problem in the actual clutch (aka REALLY expensive) or maybe a broken clutch cable? anyone know where the clutch cable attaches to the clutch pedal?
Also the brakes are giving me difficulties, the brake pedal specifically. When you push the pedal down the spring doesn't return it all the way so the brakes remain partially engaged. Can I get a new spring for it without replacing the whole pedal assembly? |

Your clutch cable may be stretched beyond it's adjustable limit.
The point where it starts to fray if it is fraying will be at the clutch fork. At that location you will see the adjuster. Try tightening the adjuster screw. You should have about a half inch of free play at the pedal. If this dosen't solve your problem them the clutch disc is worn in conjunction with the pressure plate as well as the flywheel. These items wear together in which case you will new to refurbish them provided you cannot solve your adjustment with the cable. Regarding the brake pedal travel. Are you leaking brake fluid anywhere. The spring is on the pedal assembly. Hope this helps. |
