Beautiful cars. Where's all the people? You were lucky to be able to get so close to the cars without all the crowds about.

I was there on Saturday and there weren't many people there. Sportscar racing, especially vintage sportscar racing isn't so big in this part of the country. Maybe the crowds were bigger on Sunday. Here's a shot of my car (coupe) and my father's car (targa) on Sat.

Carl's right, vintage racing just doesn't pull in the crowds here. Which means there isn't always that many extra rare cars, but when there are, you can get right up next to 'em. Also it was about 9am when I took those photos, things did get busier later in the morning.
I was at VIR 3 weekends in a row, this was the quietest one. Last weekend's AMA Superbike season finale was HUGE. I have never seen more people. The GrandAm race 2 weeks back also had a large crowd. I talked to the guy who owned and drove a 908/2, and the 907 for a good 20 minutes, and during that time, I don't think more than 5 other people stopped to look at the car. Britt |

I was there on Saturday. The biggest crowd I saw was around the yellow Enzo that shows up from time to time. Must have been 20 people around it.

Hey guys:
The 908/2 and the long tail are Henry Payne's and his sons (also Henry Payne). I have run with them for years. The crowds weren't big but there were plenty of P-cars, including ours. ![]() Had a great race and the weather was FANTASTIC!. Ton's of fun running historics. I did get the chance to talk to a bunch of fans and there really is some interest in sportscars in that region ... just not as much as some other areas. Here is a thread on Dorkiphus about the race and event. Cheers. Jason |

That F1 car was insane. I'm so glad I stayed to see it. Did it set the track record? So who was driving it? I can't imagine just anybody could drive that car to a < 1:40 lap time. It was incredible hearing it come down the back straight. You'd hear that thing scream and then he'd be banging down through the gears as he went into the roller coaster, and then it would scream down the hill.
My 911 is still busted, I drove my orange beetle instead... Britt |

That was my favorite part ... listening to him downshift going into T1, T4 and the end of the back straight. Cool stuff. Jason |

They didn't get it on Saturday. The track record is 1:35.8. I wasn't there on Sunday.
