71/3.0 swap - CIS engine wire harness ???'s - need help!
I need some help here. What started as a simple swapping of pins on my 14 pin connector has turned into a wire harness cleaning simplification.
The install is a Euro 78 SC 3.0 into a 71 T coupe. CIS has been removed and replaced with webers. Here is what I found so far. I need to match the following wires which is easy. Starter, oil press, oil temp, 2 reverse lights, dist trigger, 4 alternator. There are many that I think I can remove from the circuit. Can someone tell me if they are needed rd/white and bn ground - Air Temp, WUR, AAV to 6pin CD Rd/bk, y/bk Heater blower relay y, rd/wh vent Bn/rd from fuel pump relay to air flow sensor Bl/Y, rd/bk, Y - Cold start valve and start valve My questions are regarding the wires that end in the 6pin CD connector. Will the CD still function if they are removed? Specifically the rd/wh wire? I am concerned that the fuel pump relay is tied to the air flow sensor and temp/WUR/AAV system. Will the Gy and BK wires from the hall effect dist. trip a 3pin CD? I could just use the old CD. Is it easier to use the 6pin CD? I have also thought about an aftermarket ignition(crane or MSD). Thanks in advance for the help. I just want to make sure that the motor will still function if certain systems are left unhooked.

Jamie,
I picked up a wiring harness from a carburated car if you'd like it. Since you're running carbs it should wire up exactly the same. Maybe that helps, otherwise I'll take a good long stare at the wiring diagrams and see.

Tim, I spent most of yesterday (while the storm came through) reading the wire diagrams. I tracked each one and really don't think I need most of them. I was looking for someone who had done the same. I guess most just leave them un connected.
The only thing that would prevent the harness from working is the connections to the Dist. Otherwise it should work fine. I can always make my own connection. I think the red/white wire that goes to the CD from the WUR, etc is just a power wire to the sensor. I think I can just remove all those wires. Shouldn't be too bad. Jamie

I belive your right about that since the red wire running to my CD is just a switched power line.
I pull it when I'm working on the car as insurance that the car doesn't run and then I don't hook it back up til I'm 100% sure everything is right again.
