Where's my brake light switch?

After removing the carpet and floor board of my '88 Carerra I realized the brake light switch wasn't there (as indicated in the Haynes manual). So, I found a few threads here pointing in towards the master cylinder. But when I look at my MC I don't see the switches projecting from the side as I expected. Here's a couple of pictures. Can anyone help me find the switch locations?

Thanks...Bruce

The master cylinder faces the rear of the dash board. You will see 2 switches screwed into the passenger side of the MC

You're not pulling your carpet away far enough...they are on the passenger side of the master cylinder behind the big brake booster donut...they are pressure activated switches that screw right into the cylinder casting.

No adjustment is possible to the switch or how hard you must press on the pedal to activate the brake lights. Try new switches or live with it...

Thanks. I think I see the front switch now (after pulling back the carpet more and removing the panel behind it). Looks like there are a few hoses to get out of the way to get to them. Are new switches available at the dealer only?

Wayne has them for $10 each.

When I did mine, I found them at a local auto parts store. On my car the switches are 3-pole, the same as a late model VW Bug, but yours is the newer 2-pole, so they may be harder to find.
