VIN Plate
Do all VIN plates have the signature of the owner on them? I am trying to figure out the history of the car I just bought.

I am not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the plate on the car or the one that came with the owner's manual?

The plate on the door jamb has the previous owners signature on it.

I guess this means it is not common to Porsches. The previous owner had the car imported in the early 80's and part of the federalization process was installing new VIN plates apparently. My VIN number is 911731, but my manual says it is a 1976 Carrera 3.0. Where is the engine number and how do I decode it? TIA
