Door Lock Cylinder Mishap
My door lock cylinder in my 1988 Carrera was spinning 360 degrees but the central locking was functional (locking and un-locking). I did a search on this forum and went forward with removing the door panel and then removed the door handle. Sure enough, the screw was loose at the end of the lock cylinder allowing the key to rotate totally around. I figured I'd remove the screw and add a drop of loctite. What I hadn't planned on was holding the key and cylinder when I removed the screw. Of course the key and cylinder fell onto the grass along with a plastic cylinder/bushing.
I put it all together and now the the door will un-lock but not lock from the drivers door. I must have screwed up somewhere. Any body have an illustration or exploded view diagram of the lock cylinder? Could I have broken the micro switch?

IMO, the autolock system on the Carrera is a mystery without any clues. The locks on both my doors have malfunctioned at various times, defied attempts at repair, and then begun to work again for no discernible reason. Good luck.

I ordered a new micro switch today. Went home tonight and got one "lock" and one "unlock" out of the drivers side, then just "unlocks".
Guess I'll install the new switch and clean everything up and hope for the best. Did more research on a few forums and can't seem to come to an answer as to why these things act up as Targa911Man said. |
