69 dies sometimes when I hit the brakes or highbeams
Everything is going along fine and SOMETIMES when I hit the brake pedal, even at a complete stop, or hit the high beam SOMETIMES, it dies. The only way to get it going again is to jiggle the ignition switch wires. I have cleaned each one and followed them throught the firewall, and can find nothing. I am so stumped.
Thanks Scott. |

Uh oh......
I could tell you a long story about towing with a friends Suburban, on a dark and stormy night, with my race car in my trailer, on dark roads on the way to Lime Rock when the exact same thing happened to me. Except it only happened 3 times before it died. Dead stick. (Couldn't see a thing!) I found it was a bad positive connection at the battery. You need to check out the major connections, batt, grounds, and as you mentioned, the ignition switch and all it's related connections. Intermittant connections are very tough. But it is either the supply volts to the switch or the igition out from the switch, if it is indeed the switch. If you can't isolate it, and it keeps happening, consider replacing the switch. Maybe 'early s man' will come along and say "yup...seen this a thousand times...its: XYZ"!! He's pretty amazing that way!
