Update on Free Targa Project
 

I just wanted to share a couple pics of the Safety Orange Targa Project. The soft rear window will be completed later in the week and I'll post some pics of that when it's done.

I want to reiterate what a great guy kevin has been to work with...he's put up with my crazy schedule...he doesn't do the job purely for money, he does it cuz he is a true enthusiast. He's helped this project along on my shoestring student budget

Kevin,
I bought a 68 soft window that is missing the window. Former owner cut it out. I haven't ordered a replacement yet and I was wondering how the thing works. What are the handles for ? I thought it just unzipped. He also gave me a bow. Where does it go?Do you think I cah install the new window by myself or will I have to take it to someone that does interior work?

The handles allow you to drop the window down and have the rear completely open. Some models only have the zipper, I'm not sure which years have which. This system has two bows in it. If you only have one I would think it's for the zipper window models. I'm not an expert on the soft windows. You might want to quiz someone with more experience than me. I'll try to post more detailed pics later in the week.

It's come to my attention that I (or the quality of my service) have been the target of some criticism as a result of my posting these pictures. Let me make a couple details clear so those of you so bothered by the pics can sleep through the nights once again. The car as it appears in the pictures is not finished !! The shock covers as with all of the front suspension will be removed later to be painted, powder coated, or thrown in the trash, whichever is most appropriate. The parts of the car which were already painted and in risk of being soiled by the efforts put forth under the hood and fenders were removed and stored in a safe place or covered and protected from overspray.
We've all seen pictures of projects that are completely disassembled and set up on stands in ones garage and over the course of the next 2 or 3 years slowly and meticulously is restored to perfection. I wish they all could be done that way, but it's impratical for me as a professional to tie up shop space for any period of time just to prevent parts that will end up in the trash from getting a little overspray on them.
I'm always open to constructive criticism, I want more than anyone to satisfy my customers. And considering that so far this year alone I have put 213 jobs through my shop I think I may be doing something right and should be saved from such petty observations.

There's an old cliche...never see how sausages are made. My guess is that paint and body work can be put in the same category.

Kevin is one of the good guys on this board...and he always offers good advice on paint and body issues. (He's sort of the paint and body version of John Walker.) He took the time to share his expertise on doing the soft window conversion, and also to update the group on the progress of the "free" car. Undue flaming or criticism isn't something he deserves.

So is somebody *****slapping you for overspray on the struts and a arms? I understand your pain. I've been in construction and have had people who are quick to criticize the quality of a project without any knowledge of the process. People like that have too much time.

Kevin may not remember, but I tried buying some early fenders from him a while back. Before he agreed to send them out he offered to send the parts to a stripper to really see under the paint. Well, the fenders were not so nice, and I later found some nice fenders. I could have ended up with rusted out fenders that would have made nice iron art! So Kevin gets a nod from me as a good guy! So unless it's your shop or you are in the biz...silence is you best friend :D

I hate it when people come to my house and tell me how to cook...I just don't let them sample the food later...:D

I 've never met Kevin in person, but I have seen a few of the cars he has done, and they all have been top notch. He's definatley the JW of paint and body work on this board. Keep up the good work Kevin!
