Does my 911 run too cold?
 

That's probably not the most common question, I'm sure, but I am a little worried that my 964 is running too cold. I've driven two other 964s fairly recently and my friends '85 911. All of which seem to warm up much faster than mine, and ultimately run hotter than my car.

I just drove around for about 2 hours tonight/this morning, and had a blast in the car, but I started to worry since after 2 hours of straight driving the engine stayed pretty cold.

Unfortunately my car doesn't have degrees on it's temp gauge, so I only have tick marks to go by, and don't know what they correspond to or where the temp needs to be. The 964s I've driven, once warmed up, ran with their temp gauges pointed at the 9 O'clock position. Tonight mine got as high as 7:45 That's about as high as it'll get at night. On a really hot day and driving in the city it will reach the first tick mark (8:30 position) and maybe go a little past it, but it will never ever get to 9. And once you get it back on the highway and it will fall back below the first tick mark to about the 8 O'clock position.

Does this sound like a good or a bad thing to anyone? I hope I'm worrying over nothing, but I'm not sure. I think a lot of it is also that I'm always tempted to add oil to it because I know I have an oil leak, and the oil reservoir doesn't read accurately until it's up to temp.

Anyway, any thoughts or ideas would really be appreciated.

You know the same thing happens in my car.

I think you guys are fine. No problems at all. I'm pretty sure your oil is getting hot enough to keep the car healthy. Most guys would pray for that problem. Those engines should last a LONG time.
