From KS to Que. Roadside help needed. UPDATE

Hi guys, i am planning a purchase, a 1978 911SC Targa. Located in Mid-West. After the PPI is done, what to check to begin such a journey back?

Was thinking about setting a list of Porscheheads along my way back. I leave Kansas City and head northeast to Montreal, Quebec, crossing:
St-Louis, MS
Indianapolis, IN
Columbus, OH
Cleveland, OH
Buffalo, NY
Syracuse, NY
Adirondacs north area

Would appreciate name, location and phone numbers in case something goes wrong with car along that path.

DATES CONFIRMED. Will leave KS Saturday Oct. 11 afternoon.
Heading east. Would appreciate a roadtrip proposal. Not too keen on big highways. What does HWY24 East look like?
Scenic road someone?
Phone nubers along that path appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Hi farleyd! I'm not on your itinery, but I'd like to suggest a few things...

1.) AAA membership (cheap and useful)
2.) Tool Kit (search for threads on long trips)
3.) Spare points, condensor, fuses, fan belt

Good luck and have FUN!

Watch out farleyd, people are going to give you a list of about 100 items that you will need to successfully make it home. The only thing you really need besides the 3 listed above, is the fan belt holder and wrench.

vesnyder 09-24-2003 12:02 PM

If you need anything when coming through the Cleveland area let me know. I have an '83 SC, and most of the tools and a garage if needed to get you back on the road. Will you be coming through on I-80 or I-90? I am minutes off of I-90. I alos know a good wrench who can help you out if is something beyond us.

Good luck and drop me a note with an approximate date and time you might be coming through. I can be reached at (216) 496-0934

MotoSook 09-24-2003 12:04 PM

You'll be on I-80 going west..not far from us in the Chicago-burbs! I'll be on the alert.

vesnyder, john jr and souk, youre in my logbook. Will email you with details. many many thanks.

vesnyder 09-24-2003 12:42 PM

Good Luck, and may the Porsche Gods be looking over you!

Sabin, did you buy the brown SC?? looks pretty nice...just need some H4s with chrome rings to match the shiny trim. Best of luck on your trip and with the "new" car.
I am sure you have done all of the research about importing to Canada...revenue Canada rules and US customs vehicle export rules.
later, Max

farleyd 09-24-2003 01:24 PM

Hey hi Max! Glad to speak again. Are you talking about the brwom Targa in Kansas with chrome headlight rims? Yes that one. Looks like a good one. Surprisingly, importing the 911SC is an easy task. Already checked.

H4s are already on my list.... If anyone has some used, let me know.

red-beard 09-24-2003 02:48 PM

Sabin,

Were you planning on running up I 81 or I 87?

Just curious why you're running the south side of Lake Ontario instead of the North? I'd think it would be shorter to Montreal via Toronto.

Too bad I'm not living in Albany, I'd be a stop for you. You might want to cross post this on the 914 board as there is one guy who lives near Rochester, who also I think is a Doctor, and one who lives in Troy (Next to Albany) who I think is a Phd in Engineering.

James

farleyd 09-24-2003 04:39 PM

James, youre scraring me. Why suggest that id need a doctor and and engineer!!!!!!!! Joke.

I plan to run south because:
1 > i love beeing in the States
2 > ill have US plates
3 > want to cross border closest to home, in case of problems, we never know...

Is San Diego far from Rochester????---)))

trj911 09-24-2003 05:18 PM

Just yell if you break down in Indy. We'll get you up and running...unless it's this weekend. Then you'll have to join us for the USGP fastivities and the rece Sunday!

farleyd 09-24-2003 05:20 PM

Hi Tom, id like a phone number so i can reach you if in trouble or just for the fun of it! Ill put it in my logbook. Thanks!

Oldporsche 09-24-2003 06:18 PM

Porsche PHD is located in KC.

That is a very good start!

If your '78 911 SC has points and a condensor, you should also carry a flux capacitor.

maxnine11 09-24-2003 06:33 PM

MotoSook 09-24-2003 07:57 PM

if the PPI checks out the car will be fine! 78 3.0's are the best!!!

Buy good fuel when you are on the road..Boycott Citgo...they gave me the worst cast of bad fuel ever!

grab abeer and read this!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/122526-big-ride-now-big-headache-mad-souk-help-please-jw-ron-warren.html

Bring a fan belt and call if you run into trouble...unless it blows up, nothing should break that isn't easily fixable...

Fresh oil would be nice...make sure a knowledgeable person does it though..don't want to be ont he road and find a plug is loose or they under or over filled it...

Dates are confirmed, hence the bump!
