Porsches are still cool
Got stuck behind a school bus.
One kid turned around and saw me and within seconds the back window of the bus was full of 8-10 year old boys waving and pointing. Flashed my lights and that made them go nuts. Good taste knows no age boundries. Scott

I'm 37 and I react the same way (well, almost) when I see a 911 on the road

I've been known to jump up and down when a 911 passes on the street. Wonder what the driver thinks...
![]() I've had 996 drivers return my greeting, though, mind you: I'm just a nobody on the sidewalk! I guess Porsche owners are a bit self-conscious, after all!

When I was getting my 911 smogged last week a young guy (maybe 18) came up and just was bubbling about the car. It was amazing some of the things he knew. The car is almost as old as he is. Truly shocking. Porsches are timeless.

Actually had an SC owner acknowledge my mid-year car passing each other on the street with a wave of his hand...you can imagine my sense of 'having arrived' from such overt adulation!

Yes... I've had that experience too... younger kids seem to really like the looks of the 911

I refuse to grow up!
Yesterday while walking MrDog I heard that beautiful sound, turned around in time to see a shiny red thing with tail motoring up the on-ramp. Later that day I was returning from dropping off a coworker and got stopped at a RR crossing; just sat there and looked over the brown SC to my left, thinking all he needed was less narrow tires in the rear. It never gets old ![]() |

It's pretty funny, but when you drive a Targa with the top off, people are even more likely to make comments and wave and such. A guy in a truck pulls up and just cant stop chatting with me at a red light. Girls walking down the sidewalk shout "I love your Porsche!". Here's one of the best ones:
Last weekend a friend of ours stops by our house to pickup their computer (single mom; I was fixing it for them). Her teenage son (13) sees the Porsche in the garage and gets that same, goofy grin on his face that I had when I first bought it. Of course I recognize it right away and she tells me that he loves Porsches. I ask and find out that he's never been in one, sooooo I just had to give the kid a quick ride around the neighborhood. I glanced over a couple of times and noticed the "grin" getting bigger. Yup, he's hooked... Nothing like convincing the next generation ![]()

Used to have a 356 speedster when I lived in the UK. Sitting in it one day with the roof down reading a newspaper whilst waiting to give my Dad a lift home from work, I lower the paper to turn the page and see a guy walking around my car with a videocamera. Turns out he had seen the car, nipped home to get his camera and was taping without even noticing I was sitting in it.
That's a Porsche moment. |

I recognize the engine note of a 911 no matter where I happen to be. I instinctively turn to look every time. It really cracks me up when I am driving my car and others do the same. You can tell by their expression they knew it was a 911 before they even saw it!
That is pretty cool. Mike |

A couple 12 year old kids came up to me in my car the other day and said he's saving up for one when he's sixteen--"how much did that cost?". I said "I don't know I stole it" with a dead serious look on my face--he didn't know what to say after that. I just told him to start saving now.

When I bought my 84 Targa a few months ago my son (14) asked me to drive him to school one day. It turns out that he had emailed about a dozen of his friends who were standing outside waiting for me to drive up. My son was the "Big Dog" for the day.

I just turned 32 yesterday so I was admiring the 87-89 Carrera's when I was 16-18 years old. The entire time I was growing up, my mother had a 911, which culminated in the ownership of a 1989 Silver/Tan 25th Anniversary Cab. - The Most Timeless Car Porsche ever built. As such, I have the exact sound of the air-cooled beauties forever in my head.
When I was a wee tot, I played soccer at a local field that was sunken down in a tree lined pit between a road and a neighborhood. Towards the end of practice each day, I would turn to my neighborhood friend (with whom we carpooled) and say, "Time to go." And he would say, "Why" - to which I would reply, "Because my mom is here" Just as we finished walking up the hill to the parking area for the field, in would roll a 911 with my Mom. I swear I could hear that engine about a mile away from down in a pit! My friend always had to ride in the back seat with his knee's in his face. Funny how he never complained about riding in a Porsche. Other notable Porsche memories from my early years...Minnesota to Colorado and Back in the back seat of a 911 Targa. Don |

LOL I get this big old grin on my face when I'm in the passengers seat. I can't help but laugh out loud when the driver really gets on it and it growls. Strange that it doesn't happen when I'm driving... must be concentrating too much.

This reminds me of a couple days ago I picked up my 7th grade son in front of the school after a school function with all the kids outside waiting for the parents to pick them up.
I pulled up and about 50 boys all turned around to look and I could here lots of them making comments like cool and wow etc. Kinda reminds me of me when I was that age after seeing a cool car. Now that I think about it it kinda reminds me of me now ![]()

We had a lovely exchange student from the Ukraine staying with us last week. She's mad about Porsches and my wife insisted I take our guest for a ride (in the Porsche you dogs).
After the spin around a few back roads, the girl wandered around with Perma-grin for the rest of the evening.

That's the way it is my friends, you, read we, have all been infected by this wonderful disease. I truly believe that our marque has a life of it's own. I'm not saying that other followings of autophiles are inferior or anything like that, but Porsche especially the 911 has a mystique and character unique in the automotive world, dare I say.....they have heart.
It started for me in 1967 when I saw my first 911, Irish green, go past my house and ever since then the mere sound of the flat six excites and satisfies! Yes my bretheren, there are those with and those who want. Respectfully, Mike
