window outer seal

I want to replace the outer window seal which slots into the (black) outer trim piece. Do I have to remove this trim piece?
If yes, how do I remove this trim piece without damaging it.

Thanks,
Kees.

If its anything like the '68 cars you just carefully pull it up, because its held on with clips. Then you pull the rubber seal out, and feed the new one in.

I'm not sure if there's a better way to do it, but it took a lot of lube and a lot of effort to get the new rubber squeegie into the trim piece. On a scale of 1-10, about a 17 on the suck factor. One of the most difficult things I've done to my car!

My alum trim that fits into the rubber seal looks pretty bad...can it simply be removed or is it performing some sort of function? This is for an 88 coupe, if that matters.
Just to follow up...can this be removed, cleaned up and painted, then reinstalled. Assuming it's not destroyed while being removed.
Thanks,

I just did this a few months ago on my SC, took 1 minute.
I carefully pried up on the aluminum trim piece while holding a towel under the stiff putty knife to protect the paint.
The rubber squeegie slid into the slot with no problems, then snap in back into place.
Couldn't be easier, just make sure you buy the correct rubber, left is different than right.
