Sunroof/Roll bar

Ok, i took apart the roof interior stuff (which btw some jerk super glued to the car). And i made two progressions at once, first was i figured out why the sunroof doesn't work, wires were cut at the motor. Second is i know why i can't slide my roll bar back just slightly more to fit it in, it's hitting the sunroof motor. So my question is has anyone ever tried to relocate the motor up a bit? Is there room for such a move?

unfortunately I doubt you can move this motor.

As you can probably see, the motor connects to the transmission through that little rubber clutch piece. Unless maybe you extended or had some crazy modified clutch piece I think you are out of luck.

Those sunroofs break like its their job btw.

What about disengaging it, or something? Someone told me one time that if the cables going to motor arent' under tension then the sunroof sags in place.

1fast,

You explained to me in an Email that this is a bolt in roll bar right? The roll bar down tubes bolt on to some plates that need to be welded to the floor, correct? If this is the case why don't you just cut off the plates on the bottom of the roll bar down tubes and shorten the bar enough for the sunroof to clear and then weld on some new plates.

The bolt in roll bar that I have is essentially setup this way.

Because the bar is made of chromoly and i don't have the skill nor proper welder to weld chromoly.
I think i'm starting to face the fact the i'm royally screwed on this problem.

Bummer....

Do you want to retain the sunroof? If not you could put one of the replacement panels for GT-Racing in and shed some weight.

Are there any street rod shops near you that could handle the welding job?

I may have to find out. I don't really trust anyone around since nascar is like space shuttle technology to most of these people. Before i hang up my guns i think i'm going to experiment. I'll remove the motor and then try fitting the bar. If it does end up being the end to my bar problems then there is going to be a sunroof for sale.
I am really starting to have a bad day.

hmmmm.... I'll keep thinking....

NOt the greatest idea but, if you really have your heart set on retaining the sunroof, you could sell the current bar and buy one that is made for a sunroof car.

I just confirmed that it was ordered for a sunroof car, so i appearantly have the correct bar. There's something else that can't be right, if someone else has a safety devices cage or roll bar installed on a pre 89 car can you send me a pic of the down bars next to the b-pillars so i can make sure it's positioned correctly.

Here are some up to date pics on the roll bar and why it doesn't fit. See what you guys think, cause right now i'm definitely up for some suggestions.

Hey Ifastredsc:
Did you forget this post? Seems you posted here too.

My experience also tells me that we didn't get the right ( sunroof model) cage from Safety Devices/ Stable. They claim they never heard of such a problem and we were the first..now you. Hmm ?

Actually i have a plan for the weekend, i took some measurement and i think i know why it's out of wack. Before i get ahead of myself i'll let you guys know if it works. And the last time i didn't have the plates fitted to be welded, now i do and it didn't change the situation. Wish me luck!
