Darned good question! Not for removal or install, because I've always just grabbed the top...perhaps simply as a reference point for stamping out the other edges? Just part of the manufacturing process? BTW, are these pieces still available? I know that not many cars have one these days.

I don't have a clue. But my best guess is that it's an access hole for taking a test measurement during mfg. or final assembly. So, you see I really don't have a clue!

I found the answer from GeorgeK from Switzerland who is staying with me this week end. It was to locate a clip to hold the fuel overfill dump pipe

Fuel or brake fluid overflow? Does anyone have the part number for this cover? Cheers, Jim

Nick,
This is a stupid question, but where is that hose supposed to drain? I looked at my '73 and the I am missing the cardboard-like cover and the top fuse box cover is cracked in half ![]()

I got it now...with the RS supposedly for ROW market, the USA mandated "evap" system was not needed. Thus, an overflow dump, probably in the left front fenderwell?

and the hose as in the RS isn't there, right? Porsche simply made all the fusebox covers the same?

the pipe was fitted to all cars, many have now been removed and lost.
Brian, there is a grommet it passes through in the trunk front floor |
