No Brakes !

I went for a drive in the mountains this morning. Coming down the hills, I noticed some brake fading on my 83 911 SC. After I got to the bottom, I noticed pulling to the right, as if the front right brake caliper was binding, and detected a brake odor. A block away from my house brakes failed completely; pedal went to the floor. Luckily, I was going slow enough to use the hand brake. After getting home I inspected for leaks. None could be found. Did my master cylinder give up the ghost or what?

Wait for cool down. If fluid is full then press brake, if it goes to the floor with no brake activity then the master cylinder is gone. At this point I would remove all wheels and check pads.
Glad you made it home safely. (someone was watching out for you)!

Thanks, someone was watching over me. i came down that hill pretty hard, its a 7500 foot decent to the desert floor in Palm Desert,CA. if i had lost them on the way down i might not be posting this right now.
I will let it cool down and do what you said, the fluid level is up,I have noticed a slight pull to the right from time to time and lately the brakes just havent felt as possitive as in the past.

The 'pulling to the right' and the scent from the overheated pads tells me that you don't have a master cylinder problem ... at least it didn't cause the failure you describe! It could be a blown caliper-to-piston seal, or even a blown rubber flex hose ... but, I think putting the front up on jack stands and inspecting your calipers with the wheels off is definitely called for!!!

I let the car coll down for a few hours and the pedal is back,a friend of mine says that the fluid may be so old [it is at least 6 years/10,000 miles
old] that it failed in some way, i do think that the front right caliper has a problem. the pedal went to the floor, yet theres no leaks of any kind.

You may have "boiled" the brake fluid.
Old fluid absorbs water...making it boil at a lower temperature.
Try changing the fluid for a start....trhen test again...but not on that hill!
