Spring clips mystery

I have searched the posts and I did run across a few posts on this, however, I am still a little nervous.

I also have 101 projects, etc.

I have purchased new stainless lines, and I need to remove the flexible lines from the calipers, of course. When I look at this clip, there is a 17MM hex on the caliper end and the steel line connects to the other. The clip looks like its a 2 ply unit welded to the wheel well. There is a very straight 90 degree ply and a ply with a slight curve at the very end.
The posts talk about taking vice grips and yanking it out.
My question is, to what am I hooking the grips to? Seems like some people are using hammers to get this clip out.

Some clarity would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

It's a little hard to explain, but the clip is loose, not welded to anything. Fasten your vicegrips to the curved end and pull--hard. If that doesn't work, put a punch or screwdriver on the other end and hammer it off. It's a kind of spring thing held in place solely by its spring pressure. Once you get one of them off, it'll all become clear, but youwant to pull the curved end or push the flat end.

Here is a diagram that explains what Steve is talking about. It is part number 6.

You are the man...

Thats why forums rule.

Without a computer and this forum, I would not have the guts to buy a 70 911T. I rebuilt a couple of 76 Honda cb550f motorcycles, and the first time without help from any group. But a car is so much more in so many ways...

Thanks again!

Michael
