Photos from engine break-in...

Yesterday, as my lady and I were having a leisurely brunch, the cell phone rang and I knew it was a Pelicanhead in need. We just happened to be less than a mile form Charlie's house and he said he wanted to fire up his engine for the first time in about 7 mos. I assured my lady this would just a take a few minutes.

Well, we started with time-honored Beck's bottle method for building up fuel pressure:

Then, after Charlie cranked it a few times without the fuel relay to prime it and build oil pressure, he decided I should be the one to fire her up:

Here's a good one of Charlie standing by with the fire extinguisher. My girlfriend took this one from far away with a zoom lens.

Still cranking. See Wayne's engine book on top of the car:

Hmmmm. I could swear the book said nothing about putting oil in the car first...

And here I am smiling after 20 min. of holding the pedal at 2000 rpms. Initial break-in was a success! My girlfriend is so patient.

"See Wayne's engine book on top of the car"

So, did it take a while for you to find the ignition key ON THE LEFT side of the steering wheel???

Great to see Charlie's engine is running, and on Becks no less. Probably cheaper than gas now a days.

Congrats Charlie! It's been nice following your rebuild....now you'll need to start posting DRIVE pix!

I like the Becks beer bottle utilization...we used Classico spaghetti sauce jar... , but i like the bottles much better!

Good job guys!

Cool pics and congratulations. Are you using the advice from this break-in site?

Thanks guys, the worst part is over. The engine ran for 20 minutes at 2K without any major issues. Still need to track down why it wont hold an idle, and adjust the timing before the initial run.

Rick....I've read that article. Very similar to the break in procedures in the rebuild book.
